TRP1 replacement for MIM 2006 PBass

I did not like the tone or the frequency range of the stock Fender pickup in my 2006 MIM Fender P Bass. After researching DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan pickups I came across Tone Rider pickups. I disliked the stock ceramic overwound pickup and like the tone I had with a '73 Fender P bass. So I looked for a classic sounding pickup with a classic output and frequency range. The TRP1 fit bill, the bass has come alive. The highs are smooth and not harsh, the Mids are tame and the lows are stout but not overly deep. This pickup also opens the pots ups and the bass is more expressive. I have a .1nf cap and the tone pot can get deep and clear. Overall this is an incredible upgrade at a great price. If you want a great sound that fit in a mix with a bit of character this is a great option. I rivals my old "73 Fender P Bass but adds sweet highs that are unique to this pickup.

Great sounding pickup

I put a Classic P in an old cheap bass I had lying around, coupled it with a 50's style wiring loom that I made for it, it sounds that good that I sold my Fender MIM P bass that I had been using before.

TRP1- what else?

I first got a used TRP1 which I installed in a Squier Contemporary bass when remodelling it to passive mode.
The sound impressed me that much, that I also use it in some of my Fender bass guitars now!

Tone To Die For?

I should start by saying that I have not yet installed the pickup into the bass.

What I can say is that the pickup is nicely presented and well designed. The clever way that the foam is used to hold the slings in place suggest a very easy mechanical install. What the pickup sounds like will have to wait for another day.
