The Rebel P90 on neck position brought my Epi LP Standard to the next level. And it's beautiful! Played in single mode I'm getting a rich, warm and also crisp sound, and also in mixed mode it boosts the sound enormously. Great value for affordable price. Wondering whether I should use it in bridge position, too (or go for a firebird mini HB, bur unfortunately Tonerider haven't got one in their portfolio yet).
I installed these in a Cort G290 Fat II and it made a huge difference in the guitar tone! Played thru my Supro a dual tone I can fail up a variety of tones. I took an average guitar and turned it into a tone monster!
Watch out if you want to install them in a Tokai Love Rock. The routing does not fit, and you need to enlarge the space for the pickups
I've always heard that humbucker-sized P90s "don't sound like" real P90s.
As someone who has had both from Tonerider, I can say that Rebel 90s absolutely do capture the sound.
I took apart a Rebel 90, as I like to modify my P90s with a magnet swap. The construction is similar - two alnico bar magnets, magnetizing the adjustable pole pieces. The bobbin is nice and deep, like a real P90.
Installed, these pickups have that P90 thing - fast attack, great clarity, fat singing mids. I'm very impressed with the quality and the tone of Rebel 90s!
Fitted into the neck position of my tele / jazzmaster hybrid. The Rebal sounds absolutely fantastic clean and has a nice earthy quality when pushed hard with a fuzz pedal. Now considering replacing the humbuckers in my Les Paul with a pair of Rebels.
